We will travel around Europe in our first concert of the season.. We begin in France with the delightful Dolly Suite by Gabriel Fauré the first item of which will be known to older listeners who settled down to ‘Listen with Mother’. Then with tongues in our cheeks we present eleven Variations on a Nursery Tune by Ernst von Dohnányi from Hungary. In the second half we travel to Czechoslovakia to hear symphony No. 6 by Antonin Dvořák the earliest of the composer’s major works to receive international acclaim.
